How a board is chosen

Chart Draft is played on a 160-candle chart that both players see in full before either of them moves. There is no future price, no dice and no shuffle — but you would still have to take our word that nobody picked your board after seeing who was playing. You don't.

  1. Before midnight UTC we fix the next day's boards as an ordered list.
  2. We publish one SHA-256 over that ordered list of board hashes. That is the commitment, and it cannot be changed afterwards without changing the hash.
  3. The N-th staked match to start that day gets board N. No choice, no reuse. If the list runs out, staked matches stop until the next day rather than improvising a board.
  4. The next day we publish every board and its position, so you can recompute the commitment and find your own match's board at the position it claims.

Boards are generated by us, offline, from a seeded generator, and most are thrown away: every candidate is played by bots and rejected if one move dominates it, if there is too little worth trading, or if simply taking the biggest move every time is already the best strategy. A board is authored content, like a puzzle — not a draw.

The full board list for every revealed day, each hash at its position, is at /api/draft/fairness. A board's hash is the SHA-256 of its candles as compact JSON; a day's commitment is the SHA-256 of those hashes joined in order.
